Lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora) is a plant that comes from Latin America and more precisely from Chile and Peru and used to be cultivated from the natives for its therapeutical properties and its scent. It found its way to Europe with the Spanish sailors in the 17th century and got its other name in honor of the queen of Spain Louise Marie Therese.

Beverage with a distinctive lemon scent. It has diuretic properties and enhances the expelling of excessive fluids resulting in the reduction of cellulite and detoxication of the body. It boosts metabolism and has impact in burning fat.
Traditionally it has been used for treating digestive disorders such as dyspepsia, flatulence, neuralgia, stomach and bowel colics.
It has been used for its impact against fever, as a calming for the nervous system enabling thus calm sleep. It has beneficial action when used as a compress for migraines and nerve pains.
Directions: For herbal tea. Add one teaspoon of herb per cup of hot water and steep covered, for 4-5 minutes. Strain and enjoy hot or iced, plain or add sweetener to taste.
In cooking it flavors salads, sauces and desserts. Can be combined with cold lemonade and can be used in many cocktails.
