Nettle tea: a “panacea” herb with a great history!

Greek organic Nettle tea is an ideal, natural, caffeine-free beverage with strong diuretic, detoxing and revitalising properties.
The properties of Nettle were first mentioned by Chrysippos, (ca. 279 – 206 BC), Aristophanes (ca. 446 –.386 BC) and Hesiod (ca. 750-700 BC). Hippocrates (ca. 460 – 370 BC) classified nettle among the “panacea” herbs, used to cure a wide range of disorders. The Greek physician Galen (129 – c. AD 216), in his book “De Simplicibus Medicamentis ad Paternainum (espurio)», recommended Nettle as a diuretic and laxative for the treatment of bites from dogs, gangrene, edemas, nosebleeds, excessive menstruation, for diseases associated with the spleen, pleurisy, pneumonia, asthma, mouth ulcers and hair growth. Also in the Middle Ages, Nettle was used to treat several diseases, whereas the Indians used it to treat acne, diarrhea and for infections of the urinary tract.

Nettle contains a lot of nutrients with antioxidant activity, including vitamins (A, B, C and K), minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium), fats (linoleic acid, linolenic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid), essential amino acids, polyphenols (kaempferol, quercetin, caffeic acid, coumarins and other flavonoids), pigments (beta-carotene, lutein, luteoxanthin and other carotenoids).
